Bad Kissingen (dpa / lby) – The Lower Franconian spa town of Bad Kissingen invites you to World Heritage Day on Sunday with several activities. In addition to city tours and lectures, there are also concerts and hands-on activities for children. “We don’t want to be a museum, we want to live our history,” said Mayor Dirk Vogel (SPD), according to the press release.

Under the title “The Great Spa Towns of Europe”, Bad Kissingen was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2021 along with ten other spa towns from several countries. In the 19th century, the city was one of the most important spas in Europe. Numerous prominent guests came here to relax, for example Empress Elisabeth (“Sisi”), Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and the writer Theodor Fontane.

World Heritage Day has been organized by the German Unesco Commission together with the association “Welterbestätten Deutschland e.V.” since 2005. celebrated. Bad Kissingen is now there for the first time.
