Erfurt (dpa/th) – A nationwide Böhmermann experiment on how the police deal with reports of hate messages has no consequences for officials in Thuringia. The state police headquarters in Erfurt announced on Tuesday that there was no evidence of criminally relevant misconduct from the files and the available material from the “ZDF Magazin Royal” program.

“So there are no internal investigations,” it said. However, dealing with such allegations is a fundamental part of the error culture of the Thuringian police. With the Thuringian police’s online watch, hate crimes can also be reported online at any time. “Anonymous filing of a complaint, however, is not considered to be expedient for investigative work.”

As Böhmermann reported in the latest episode of “ZDF Magazin Royale”, in August 2021, 16 people in 16 police departments in all federal states reported the same seven hate comments from the Internet. Under the title “Tatütata.Fail”, the editors then evaluated how the ads were handled. In some federal states, this led to investigations into criminal prosecution against police officers because reports were obviously not processed properly or not recorded at all.

In Thuringia, the cases were reported to the Jena police station. The investigations into the hate comment ads were ongoing, the state police said. The Gera public prosecutor’s office is in charge of the proceedings.
