Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – A report from the program “ZDF Magazin Royale” by the satirist Jan Böhmermann has triggered internal investigations by the police in Magdeburg. Since “the concrete allegations became known in the last week”, investigations have been carried out against an officer at the police station on suspicion of evading criminal prosecution, the Magdeburg Police Inspectorate announced on Saturday.
As Böhmermann reported in the latest episode of “ZDF Magazin Royale”, in August 2021, 16 people in 16 police departments in all federal states reported the same seven hate comments from the Internet.
“According to previous knowledge, the receipt of a criminal complaint was omitted at the time,” said the Magdeburg police report. The matter is being investigated thoroughly and comprehensively. In addition, the police inspection made it clear that the police “take action against any form of hate and hate speech.” The investigation into the specific case continued, it said.
