Gevelsberg (dpa / lnw) – Ten people were injured in a fire in an apartment building in Gevelsberg (Ennepe-Ruhr district). The stairwell burned to the full extent in the morning and several people were standing at smoky windows, as the fire brigade announced on Saturday. The residents were brought to safety via turntable ladders, portable ladders and the stairwell.
The fire was extinguished promptly, it said. The injured were taken to a hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, a police spokeswoman said. The fire broke out in an apartment, the cause of which is still unclear. The house is said to be uninhabitable for the time being.
