Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) – The mother of the killed Leonie from Torgelow (Western Pomerania-Greifswald) should answer to the court again in the summer. As a spokesman for the Neubrandenburg district court said on Saturday, the appeal hearing against the 27-year-old woman is scheduled for August 3rd. In December 2021, the district court sentenced her to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. The sentence should not be suspended. Her lawyer had appealed against this.
According to current plans, only one day of negotiations is planned for the appointment process. However, to protect the siblings of the killed girl, the hearing could take place largely without public, as was the case before the district court.
Leonie was found dead on January 12, 2019 in the family of five’s apartment in Torgelow. The stepfather had severely abused the girl when the mother was away and then prevented rescuers from being able to provide help in time. The man made the child fall down the stairs. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder by omission. The mother was a key witness for the prosecution.
The 27-year-old was sentenced to two years in prison by the Neubrandenburg district court in December. In January 2019, she had the opportunity to get help for the six-year-old in good time, but did not do so, the judge justified the verdict. In doing so, the District Court went beyond the prosecutor’s request. The defense attorney had pleaded for acquittal or a fine.
