Königstein (dpa/sn) – Children and adults can play in company instead of alone on the couch at the computer this weekend at Königstein Fortress (Saxon Switzerland). According to the organizers, on World Games Day (May 28), analog games should encourage real competition in thinking, skill and speed and draw attention to the value of free play for child development and healthy growth.
More than 100 board, dice, card and puzzle games can be tried out, including classics and novelties. Game explainers help with the introduction to the game. The fortress itself contributes historical events such as tug of war, sack races or eagle shooting. And from 25,000 Lego bricks, according to templates, a two by three meter giant mosaic is to be created.
The “lapide regis”, first mentioned in a document in 1241, is one of Saxony’s most popular excursion destinations. The medieval Bohemian royal castle was later a monastery, state fortress, courtly festival site, art depot and prison. The 9.5-hectare fortress area has been an open-air museum since 1955 and has been state property since reunification.
