Würzburg (dpa / lby) – Franconia’s new wine queen is called Eva Brockmann. The 23-year-old from Großwallstadt (Miltenberg district) was elected on Friday by representatives from viticulture, politics, business, media and tourism in Würzburg. The vintner and viticulture student prevailed over two competitors. The previous wine queen Carolin Meyer had represented Franconia since 2019 due to the corona. A term usually ends after a year with the election of a new queen.
The Franconian Wine Queen has been chosen since 1950. In normal years she completes around 400 appointments for the winegrowers and their viticulture in Bavaria, Germany and abroad.
Whoever wanted to be Franconia’s 65th wine queen had to be at least 18 years old and unmarried. Applicants need a driver’s license and should have specialist knowledge of viticulture, winemaking and marketing.
With 99 percent of the more than 6,300 hectares of wine-growing area, Franconia is the most important wine-growing region in Bavaria. There are about 2900 winemakers.
