Magdeburg/Halle (dpa/sa) – Ascension Day or Men’s Day, which is traditionally popular with groups of men who like to celebrate and drink hard, went “overwhelmingly positively” and “very calmly” for the police in Magdeburg and Halle. A police spokeswoman said on Friday that there had only been a few operations in the area of ??the Magdeburg police station by Thursday afternoon. In the evening, the officials had to move out more often, but everything calmed down quickly, they said. “Alcohol-related failures” were often the reason for the operations within the state capital. In most cases, it was possible to hold clarifying discussions – also in cooperation with the city’s regulatory office.
However, some investigations were also initiated, for example after a fight at Adolf-Mittag-See. According to the police, two larger groups got into a fight there for an unknown reason. Three young men from Burg were slightly injured, it said. A 16- and an 18-year-old from Magdeburg were identified as suspected perpetrators. During an operation on the Sternbrücke, the officials were mobbed and insulted, and a 21-year-old also showed the Hitler salute. His personal details have been recorded.
The police station in Halle also draws a positive conclusion from the men’s day. “There were absolutely no abnormalities,” said a spokesman on Friday. “It was really, really quiet in the city.”
