Weingarten (dpa/lsw) – Two firefighters were slightly injured in a fire in a residential and commercial building in Weingarten (Ravensburg district) on Tuesday evening. Two residents were already rescued by volunteer firefighters from the neighborhood before the emergency services arrived, as the police and fire department announced on Wednesday night. The other residents were able to get themselves to safety. All nine residents were unharmed.

The fire broke out in the unoccupied attic of the building. The flames also spread to the roof of a neighboring building, but the fire brigade was able to prevent the interior from being affected.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the rescue and extinguishing work, which were treated as outpatients in the hospital. All residents of the house were accommodated in other accommodations. The fire brigade put out the fire until late in the evening and was on duty with almost 100 people. The building suffered material damage of several hundred thousand euros.

The roads in the area around the scene of the fire were closed until after midnight for extinguishing and rescue work. The cause of fire was unclear for the moment.
