Buxtehude (dpa/th) – The handball team at Thüringer HC ended the Bundesliga season with a defeat. Coach Herbert Müller’s team lost their catch-up game at Buxtehuder SV on Tuesday evening by 32:35 (14:14) and finished fourth in the final with 34:18 points. The women of Buxtehude (38:14) secured a starting place in the European League as third place. In front of 657 spectators, Kerstin Kündig distinguished herself as the THC’s best thrower with eight goals.
Three days after the furious 38:27 victory in the home final against runner-up Borussia Dortmund, the Thuringian side made a promising start in Buxtehude and, thanks to strong saves from goalkeeper Irma Schjött, were leading 5:2 after ten minutes. As a result, Buxtehude found his way into the game better and better, repeatedly surprised the THC with quick switching games and conquered a 10:6 lead with an 8:1 run (20th minute). The Thuringians found their offensive rhythm before the break, scored consistently from the back and forced the equaliser.
However, the second half belonged entirely to the Buxtehude women. Until 20:23 (41 st ) the THC kept up halfway, before he could no longer oppose the vortex of the BSV attack. The gap grew to 24:32 (52nd th), in the final phase it was still possible to make up some of the results.
The season for the Thuringian women is not over yet. In the Final Four of the DHB Cup in Stuttgart, they meet German champions SG BBM Bietigheim in the second semi-final on Saturday (5.30 p.m.). Before that, Buxtehude and VfL Oldenburg play out the first finalist.
