Füssen (dpa / lby) – A storm with hail and heavy rain late on Monday afternoon caused around 160 fire brigade operations in and around Füssen until late at night. Some of the operations went well after midnight, the fire department said on Tuesday. Personal injury was not initially known to the fire brigade, the police reported two minor injuries in an aquaplaning accident in Füssen.

According to the fire department, the city of Füssen was particularly affected by the storm, and there were also foothills in the direction of Schwangau and Pfronten. The fire department was initially unable to provide any information on the total amount of damage. That is difficult to estimate, since, for example, in the case of overflowing underground car parks, it is particularly important whether the affected cars can be dried or whether they are total losses. On Tuesday, the fire brigade was also still busy with the final clean-up work.

The police initially reported 27 operations on Tuesday morning, but pointed out that a lot of the fire brigade and local building yards were processed without the police. In addition to flooded cellars, there were also trees that were blown down and traffic accidents caused by storms.

According to the city of Füssen, the federal base for ice hockey and curling was also affected by the storm. There the water was two meters high in front of the room with the refrigeration system. Fortunately, the doors held and thanks to the quick intervention of the fire brigade and the electricity company, the damage was limited. The mayor also thanked all emergency services. According to the fire department alone, at least 200 people were deployed.
