According to an ADAC survey, only 50 percent of German pedestrians feel safe on the streets. In Cologne, too, the result is negative: 37 percent do not feel comfortable walking.
Increasing traffic and poor infrastructure – these are the biggest problems in cities. In 2020, 376 pedestrians died on Germany’s roads. Although this number has been falling continuously for years, what is striking is the high proportion of over 65-year-olds, at more than 50 percent. However, the pedestrians are partly responsible. According to the Federal Statistical Office, about every tenth death on German roads is caused by incorrect behavior by pedestrians. What can you do to feel safer again, especially in cities?
