Take That is Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen. Finally, Robbie Williams and Jason Orange have quit their service with the former boy band. The trio is now showing up at the Cannes Film Festival. But we almost didn’t recognize Mark Owen.
They are “back for good” – on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Take That stars Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen posed here in casual cream outfits and – despite their advanced age – best boy band manners for the photographers.
The trio traveled to the Côte d’Azur to promote the film “Greatest Days”. Finally, the Take That story served as inspiration for the Coky Giedroyc-directed strip based on the musical The Band.
It would almost have been like the good old days if it weren’t for Robbie Williams and Jason Orange, who have lost Take That as permanent members. And if Mark Owen hadn’t made an appearance where he was hardly recognised.
We remember: In the ’90s, he was best known as the cute heartthrob with the middle parting that you can count on. But since his time as a teen idol, the now 50-year-old has played around with his appearance a lot, trying out new hairstyles and styles.
In Cannes, Owen presented the preliminary highlight of this transformation. He posed for the photographers in white linen trousers, a patterned summer shirt and a gray blazer. The singer wore a conspicuous mustache and huge white sunglasses on his face, although he also took them off from time to time. His long blond hair was blowing in the wind.
The beard is a holdover from the Corona period when Owen first tried it out. But as it turns out, he apparently came up with completely different styling ideas during the pandemic.
Fans responded with mixed feelings about the “new” Owen on Twitter. “SORRY MARK OWEN???”, reads a tweet in capital letters and with numerous question marks. Another writes that the beard reminds him of a “70s porn star,” while some compare Owen to the “Tiger King” from the Netflix series of the same name. But still: One or the other finds the look “great”.
