In the fifth wave of the pandemic, the Swiss have voted on the law that allows us to establish the Covid passport in the country, as follows from the first estimates published on Sunday by the Sounding Institute.

The opponents of the Covid passport, who had triggered the referendum, would have lost the scrutiny.
The polls performed before the vote always gave a clear majority to the “yes” to the law.
Only the right-wing populist party, UDC, first political force of the country, asked to vote against.

The Swiss have also voted with respect to a popular initiative on nursing care, which asks the Confederation to guarantee an “adequate remuneration” of such benefits.

As a sign of the unusual tensions in Switzerland, the police have blocked the square in front of the Headquarters of the Government and the Parliament in Bern, in the forecast of demonstrations.

The increase of tensions in Switzerland, a country reputed by its culture of dialogue and where referendums are organized several times per year, created a big surprise.

These voting occur when Switzerland, like other countries, experiences an outbreak of COVID-19 infections since mid-October due to the delta variant.

But, unlike other countries in the same case, the Government has so far refused to harden the control measures at the national level, arguing that the occupation of intensive care beds by patients with Coronavirus is relatively low to date (
twenty%).
