The creators of a new reality show who put activists in competition to promote a beneficial cause gave back this Thursday and radically changed their project before the heated controversy that has aroused in recent days.

Called The Activist, the program was planned to be transmitted in October by the US Canal CBS and is co-produced by the Global Citizen NGO, with stars like the Usher singer and the Priyanka Chopra actress as presenter.

The audience was supposed to follow the adventures of “six activists” that try to “create powerful movements” and “bring a real change to one of the three global causes of vital importance: health, education and environment,” according to the website of the
channel.

The candidates would face “challenges”, and their “success” would be measured “by the receipt of their online publications, the analysis of social networks and the comments of the presenters,” CBS continued.

The final was scheduled outside the G20 Summit in Rome at the end of October, where budding activists would seek funding and “would create awareness about their cause”.

This menu had generated a profound rejection from many activists, personalities and anonymous Internet users.

“Could not they give the money directly to militant causes, instead of turning activism into a game? People are dying,” he tuned the actress and feminist activist Jameela Jamil.

Before the rain of criticism, the producers announced that they were changing the format of the program, abandoning the “challenges” and the multiple episodes to make a single documentary.

“We’re wrong”, Global Citizen apologized.

“Activism is based on cooperation and cooperation, not competition,” recognized NGO, which fights against poverty, for the preservation of the environment and by equity.

“I moved the power of your reactions,” said Priyanka Chopra to his 27 million followers on Twitter.
“The program was wrong, and I regret that my participation has disappointed many of you.”
