Two Met Gala attendees made a statement about women’s rights by wearing their statement outfits.

Cara Delevingne, actress and model, made her entrance wearing a white Dior vest with matching trousers and red letters across the chest that read, “Peg The patriarchy.”

It’s all about women empowerment. Delevingne said Vogue that it’s a little like sticking it to the man.

Carolyn Maloney, a New York Rep. (D), wore a lace-and-silk gown in purple, gold, and white — colors associated to the suffrage movement. She was wearing “equal rights” and “ERA Yes” multiple times.

“ERA Yes” refers the Equal Rights Amendment that would ban gender discrimination.

Maloney tweeted, “Across the nation, women’s rights have been under attack.” I have used fashion for change since childhood. The Met Costume Institute reopens with their inaugural exhibition celebrating American designers. I call 4 the certification for the ERA so that women can be equal one and all.

These statements are made amid tensions following the Texas’s new law earlier in the month, which makes it illegal for a state to provide or access an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.
