The Ministry of Defense discards to modify its strategy in relation to the Autonomous Cities of Ceuta and Melilla after knowing the rearm that Morocco is taking place with the purchase of military material to Turkey.
The Government alleges in this sense that Spain is not alone, but its defense policy is encrypted in the European Union and NATO.
It has recently been published that the neighboring country negotiates with Turkey the purchase of 22 attack helicopters worth 1,300 million euros, as well as 12 Turkish drones to monitor the borders of Ceuta and Melilla.
Previously, a report entitled “Morocco, the Strait of Gibraltar and the military threat of the Safety and Culture Institute warned of Morocco’s ambitious program in recent years, which includes the acquisition of military material by
More than 20,000 million dollars.
However, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, considers this issue an “internal issue of Morocco”.
Being asked by Europe Press if she foresees to change the defense strategy in Ceuta and Melilla before the Rearme that Morocco is carrying out, she says she deserves the maximum respect for the neighboring country.
Of course, she has specified that what is no doubt is from the Spaniard of Ceuta and Melilla, of which she says they are so Spanish as any other city of Spain.
“I feel very ceuty and Melillense,” she exclaims.
In any case, Robles wants to make it clear that the Spanish defense policy is scope in the European Union and NATO and meets missions with Blue Helmets and United Nations.
While “Morocco does not belong to the EU, neither NATO”.
Spain, emphasizes the Minister of Defense, “It is not a country that is only in defense policies, it is a country that contributes to defense policies and within the EU and NATO.”
The Minister has also referred to the NATO Summit in which the Government President, Pedro Sánchez, had a brief encounter with the president of the US, Joe Biden.
Robles points out that she was at that summit and although the cameras only recorded 29 seconds, she was “face-to-face witness” of the meeting of the Atlantic Alliance that lasted several hours.
In his opinion, in Spain sometimes sins the lack of “generosity” to recognize the positive and does not put significant issues as the fact that the NATO Summit will be held in Spain.
A question that is, ensures, an “recognition of all countries” of Spain in the Atlantic Alliance for 40 years.
In this sense, he points out that “the best of the summit are made and not words” since, insists, “all the countries without exception celebrated and welcomed” the one who celebrated the next summit in Madrid.
It is, he adds, the recognition that Spain is a serious and reliable country internationally and with an “important projection”.
In addition, he added that a few days ago she was visiting a ship of the Armada in Rota with the Secretary of American Defense and has emphasized that “relationships are magnificent”.
