The Ambassador of Spain in Chile, Enrique Ojeda Vila, has been appointed new director of Casa América at the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and after consulting and collecting the Consensus of the Community and the City of Madrid
.

His appointment arrives after, last December, exteriors did not get the support of Administrations to elect Borja Cabezón, the socialist deputy of the Assembly of Madrid who left his seat voluntarily that same month.

Cabezón did not reach the direction of Casa America since the director must be chosen by the Governing Council of the Institution, from which the Ministry, the Community of Madrid and the City Council of the Capital are part.
Of course, only exteriors can propose candidates.

In his day, the world published the controversy for the possible appointment of Cabezón, personal friend of the then director of the Cabinet of the Government Presidency, Ivan Round.
The PP warned that he would oppose and the position has been vacant these months.

Finally, the name that has achieved the conformity of the parties has been that of Ojeda, which has 27 years of career, dedicated in its almost totality to Ibero-America.
Ojeda had previously been ambassador in Bolivia and in Salvador.
In addition, he was previously destined in the Embassies of Spain in Guatemala and Bolivia.

According to Exteriors, the new director of Casa de América has accredited cultural management experience, having led the Foundation three cultures for five years, “one of the main institutions dedicated to intercultural dialogue in Spain.”

Casa América is a public consortium that aims, as reflects its website, to strengthen the ties between Spain and the American continent, especially with Ibero-America.
For this purpose, seminars, conferences, round tables, exhibitions, cinematographic projections, concerts or colloquium, are organized,

A series of formats that seek to promote an adequate climate to discuss American topics and make known the different realities of that continent in Spain.
