The judge investigating the case of Irene Montero’s nanny has agreed to impute the manager of Podemos and her treasurer. The magistrate thus agrees with the criteria of the Prosecutor’s Office, and cites Rocío Val and Daniel de Frutos on July 19. That same day, Teresa Arévalo herself, a former Podemos deputy who would have been employed by the Minister of Equality as her babysitter, must appear in court.

The popular accusation exercised by the Prolege Association of European Jurists had requested the imputation of the treasurer and the manager, in addition to that of the former leader of Podemos Pablo Iglesias. The judge rejects, like the Prosecutor’s Office, that there is reason to summon Iglesias, although as a father he would have benefited from the babysitter’s tasks. But he does consider that he should change the status of Val and De Frutos as witnesses to that of being investigated.

Despite this, the magistrate José María Escribano indicates that at this initial moment of the investigation there are hardly any indications against the two new defendants, for whom it is more “beneficial” to testify accompanied by a lawyer. “Although at the moment there is circumstantial weakness regarding participation in the events of the aforementioned investigated, it is no less true that the role of head of finances and manager in the political party implies that they could have had some intervention essentially attending to the criminal types of unfair administration, misappropriation or electoral law “.

The case examines the use of her as Arévalo’s nanny on account of party funds by Montero, who came to appoint her as an advisor to her department. The facts could be an electoral crime, misappropriation or unfair administration, according to the legal classification set out by the judge in his indictment.
