In Vigàta is shot, the young branch Manager of a regional Bank in the morning on the open road. Inspector Montalbano takes on, not the least bit tired, even if he more and more frequently, insomnia plagues, the investigation, and as its new, from the Piedmont trunk of the supervisor wants to withdraw the case, the Bishop of Montelusa his word for it. So, almost conventionally, the crime novel “Riccardino” by Andrea Camilleri, the day before the first anniversary of the death of the writer, on 17. July, in Italy is published. In advance there had been some anecdote about this book. So the author should have the manuscript to his publisher, Sellerio in Palermo, already in 2005, with the support entrusted to publish it posthumously. Eleven years later he has revised the Text – but only in the language, without changing the plot, so that the publisher can also be a double edition, with two versions offered for philologists of the 2005 and 2016–.
An obvious homage
It is not the last of the Montalbano crime, and eighteen more followed in 2005, but the one with the last case. Camilleri did not want to, that happens to him, such as his prematurely deceased colleague, the Spaniards (and the godfather of his Commissioner) Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, who could not free himself from his protagonist, the private detective Pepe Carvalho””. What is new is that the first provisional title consists of only a name and no literary echoes, and as Salvo Montalbano is approaching the scene of the crime, something Unprecedented happens: “Yes, This is the Commissario Montalbano”, call the people on the street, in the Windows and on the balconies; one of them asks: “How, from the TV?”, and another one answers: “no, the Real one!”
