The opposition leader, Lazarus Chakwera is the new President of Malawi. The 65-year-old theologian put after the victory at the presidential election on Sunday in the capital, Lilongwe, on his oath of office. Chakwera had won the elections on Tuesday of last week with 58,57 percent of the votes, ahead of incumbent Peter Mutharika, got the end result, according to the 39,41% of the votes.
a Few hours after the announcement of the election result Chakwera on Sunday was already in his office introduced. In a short speech he announced that the differences that divided the country, to bridge, and for improving the living conditions of all citizens intends to use. After the announcement of the final result in the night of Sunday, his supporters broke out in Lilongwe, cheers.
Chakwera comes from a poor family, studied theology in Malawi, South Africa and the United States. In addition, he worked as a priest, a Pentecostal Church. He is the Chairman of the Malwischen Congress party (MCP) and joined the choice for an Alliance of several opposition parties.
