Carlos Alcaraz has already met his first opponent for the Mutua Madrid Open 2023 Emil Ruusuvuori.

The Finn defeated the Frenchman Ugo Humbert 7-6(6) and 7-6(4), in the first round of the men’s draw of the Madrid tournament.

Alcaraz will play this Friday for the second time in his career against the Finnish tennis player, whom he has never beaten. They met two years ago, at the 2021 Miami Masters 1000 and Ruusuvuori won in three sets (6-4, 2-6 and 7-5).

On the other hand, the absences of Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal leave Carlos Alcaraz and Tsitsipas as the two favorites for each side of the tournament draw. In the case of the Spanish tennis player, he would thus renew his 2022 victory as also happened with Godó last Sunday.

This Wednesday Ruusuvuori took two hours and two minutes to certify his superiority over Frenchman Umbert who reacted in the second set but was unable to complete the comeback.

It was the 24-year-old’s second win over the Frenchman, whom he beat at Roland Garros last year.

Ruusuvuori, 41 in the ATP ranking, finalist in Pune last year, his only final so far, is playing the Madrid tournament for the first time. Two seasons ago, in 2021, he played the previous round that he did not pass.

The match between Carlos Alcaraz and Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open 2023 will take place this Friday, April 28, but the time of the match has not yet been confirmed.

The match between Alcaraz and Ruusuvuori can be seen on Teledeporte and also on Movistar Deportes.
