A court in Jaca has sentenced the parents of four minors to pay 557,563 euros for the damage caused by their children in a chalet in the Aragonese Pyrenees that was set on fire.

The adolescents, who were between 14 and 17 years old when the events occurred, have been convicted of one crime of trespassing and another of damages for serious negligence.

However, given their status as minors, it will be their parents, as civil liability, who will have to bear the damages caused by their children.

Two of the convicted boys will have to spend 12 months under probation, while another is forced to attend a supervised day center for the same period.

The fourth, who has just reached the age of majority, will have to do socio-educational tasks for six months to reflect on what happened.

According to the sentence, which Heraldo de Aragón advances this Sunday, on the night of April 17, 2022, a group of minors accessed a chalet located in the Huesca town of Castiello de Jaca.

With the intention of holding a party, they took advantage of the fact that the owner, a Zaragoza notary, was not in the house that Holy Week, which he had acquired in 2019 and used as a second residence.

They used the fact that the back door was broken and could be opened from the outside to break into the chalet. Once inside, they used a stone to break open the cellar door, where they remained for a while smoking and opening several bottles of wine.

In fact, they came to immortalize the moment by recording a video in which the four of them appeared toasting, images that the Civil Guard later rescued from the mobile phone of one of those investigated and that have served as evidence.

During the trial they acknowledged that they were in the building, but claimed that it seemed to them that it was an abandoned building.

The sentence considers it proven that, once they entered the room, they poured gasoline into a glass and set it on fire. The violent flare surprised the group of friends, who tried to put it out using tap water.

However, fuel then spilled on the table, causing it to catch fire immediately. To try to put out the fire, they used the quilt from a bed that fueled the fire even more so that the minors, frightened, decided to leave the house, which ended up being burned down.
