Ximo Puig is frequently included in the group of PSOE barons critical of the management of Pedro Sánchez. The president of the Generalitat Valenciana supported Susana Díaz in the primaries in which she faced the current secretary general of the party, with whom those around her assure that, however, she maintains a “cordial” relationship.

Both, in fact, have exhibited that harmony during their participation this Sunday in the municipal conference that the Socialists have held this weekend in Valencia. Even the host has come to willingly assume the label of “last sanchista in the kingdom” that has been given to him by his rival for the PP in the elections on May 28, Carlos Mazón, only adding a tagline: “Last, last… Some more there is “.

Even so, Puig has not missed the opportunity to once again express his disagreement out of “respect” for the cutting of the Tajo-Segura transfer approved by the central government at the request of the third vice president, Teresa Ribera, present at the act that they have attended. 4,000 people attended, including nine other ministers. In the regional direction of the Valencian PSOE they recognize that this measure, which directly harms the Alicante irrigators, will probably take its toll on them at the polls.

“It’s about acting with common sense and not cheating anymore”, the president has come to say during his speech, although from the continuation of that sentence it has been deduced that it was not his fellow soldiers who he accused of lying. “When the PP governed in all the institutions they did not solve the water problem, when there has been the least transfer was in the last year of [Mariano] Rajoy, that they did not transfer water. That is the reality. Stop deceiving, stop take people for idiots, because we are not,” he added to try to neutralize the criticism he receives from Mazón for the issue that is the focus of the debate in the pre-campaign.

The apparent tension between the leaders of the two majority parties is not accidental, because the electoral board of May 28 the Valencian Community occupies a prominent place among the games that are expected to be the most disputed. The technical tie between blocks predicted by the latest polls -including that of EL MUNDO- has led the popular to place in the category of realistic aspirations that of recovering one of their traditional and impregnable strongholds since 2015, while in the PSOE they strive to achieve the reissue of a third term for Puig in the Generalitat.

The reconquest strategy planned at the Genoa headquarters includes holding a major campaign event in the Valencia bullring, associated with the era of absolute majorities for Eduardo Zaplana, Francisco Camps and Rita Barberá. Ferraz, for his part, has chosen the capital of Turia for the celebration this weekend of his municipal conference, a relevant meeting because with him the party has entered the acceleration track towards the appointment with the polls.

From the Socialist Federal Executive they recognize that in recent months there has been fear that the sum of forces on the left was insufficient for Puig to be able to remain in office. On the other hand, they point out, the prospects have improved now that they are convinced that Unidas Podemos will achieve at least 5% of the votes -the minimum threshold to obtain representation-, an essential requirement to be able to maintain the Government of the Botànic, which is supported by a tripartite in which Compromís also participates.
