Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. (Dongfeng Honda) recently celebrated the opening of its new energy vehicle (NEV) production plant in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. This plant marks the first dedicated Honda electric vehicle (EV) production facility in the world to begin operations.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries and executives, highlighting the importance of this milestone. Yang Qing, Chairman of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Toshihiro Mibe, Global CEO of Honda, and Masayuki Igarashi, Managing Executive Officer of Honda, were among those present at the event.

The new NEV production plant boasts a highly efficient EV production line achieved through increased automation, particularly in the assembly process. Quality control and operational data integration within the plant further enhance production processes. Additionally, the introduction of a multi-level automated warehouse and automation of parts logistics have eliminated the need for logistics personnel in the stamping process, a first for Honda globally.

In terms of sustainability, the plant has implemented various measures to reduce energy consumption. These include efficient daylighting layouts to minimize electricity usage, the utilization of thermal energy for heating systems, and real-time monitoring of energy consumption to identify and address excess usage. By optimizing power consumption and minimizing environmental impact, Dongfeng Honda aims to reduce its overall environmental footprint significantly.

Honda has committed to achieving carbon neutrality for all its products and corporate activities globally by 2050. In China, the company plans to introduce a total of 10 Honda-brand EV models by 2027, including the e:N Series and the Ye Series – a next-generation EV series unveiled in April 2024. Honda is targeting 100% EV sales in China by 2035 with these new models.

The opening ceremony for the dedicated Honda EV production plant signifies a significant step towards achieving these goals. Honda is dedicated to operating the new plant efficiently to deliver high-quality EV models to customers in China. The company remains committed to “Expanding the Joys for our customers and society” through its sustainable and innovative practices.
