White & Case’s recent partner promotions round in London and New York was smaller than usual, with only three lawyers in each city making partner. However, the firm emphasized its global presence by promoting lawyers in five other US offices and nine cities across Continental Europe. Promotions are an important way of recognizing the hard work and dedication of employees.

In contrast, Paris dominated White & Case’s promotions, with three new partners being made up in the City. This is the smallest new partner class in the City since 2019. The newly promoted lawyers include M&A duo Joseph Bradley and Angus Nunn, who have valuable experience from their previous positions at Shearman & Sterling and Linklaters, respectively.

On the other hand, Kirkland & Ellis celebrated the elevation of 200 lawyers to partner status, which has become a standard practice for the firm. This number is not even a record, as in the past two years, a similar number of promotions have been made. In 2023, 205 lawyers were promoted across the firm’s global offices, with 25 of them in the City. The sheer size of Kirkland’s promotions reflects its commitment to recognizing and rewarding top talent.

Additionally, Goodwin recently announced a global round of 35 promotions, including a City quartet being promoted to partnership. The promotions span across four different practice areas in London. Alexandra Carter, who specializes in funds work, joined the private equity team’s partnership after training and working at Ropes & Gray since 2018.

Overall, law firms like White & Case, Kirkland & Ellis, and Goodwin are recognizing the talent and hard work of their employees through annual promotions. These promotions not only reward individuals for their contributions but also demonstrate the firms’ commitment to fostering talent and promoting diversity within the legal profession.
