Two individuals were rescued today after a car crashed into a temporary building at Torbay Hospital, according to the fire service. The incident occurred around 10:47 GMT on Wednesday, and Devon and Cornwall Police reported that three people were injured in the collision.
The driver was already freed from the vehicle when the fire crews arrived, but unfortunately, two people were trapped under the car. Fire crews from Torquay and Paignton were quick to respond and successfully lifted the car to rescue the trapped individuals. Both casualties are now free and are currently being assessed by the ambulance service.
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust released a statement on Facebook, informing the public about the road traffic incident at the hospital. As a result of the crash, traffic diversions were put in place, and car park A was closed. The trust advised individuals with appointments at the hospital to consider using public transport and allocate extra time for their journey.
At this time, the hospital remains open despite the ongoing incident. The BBC has reached out to both Torbay Hospital and the fire service for further comments. Stay tuned as more updates on this breaking news story will be provided shortly.
