Every January 1 the New Year’s Concert 2024 comes on stage. The Great Hall of the Vienna Philharmonic will host this international musical event that reaches more than 90 million homes around the world.
The German conductor Christian Thielemann, who already directed the 2019 concert, will once again conduct one of the best musicians in the world before the attentive gaze of more than 1,800 attendees present.
Thielemann is known for being a specialist in playing the great German romantic directors, such as Anton Brucker, Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. Personally, he is known for his demand, seriousness and self-confidence.
The Austrian television ORF, in co-production with the European Radio-Television Union (EBU-EBU-Eurovision) broadcasts the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra to the whole world.
In Spain, La 1 de TVE offers the traditional Viennese concert from 11:15 a.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024 and will last until 1:45 p.m. The broadcast will feature comments from Martín Llade.
The New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has been held every year since 1941 from the Great Hall or Golden Hall of the Vienna Musical Society.
For this occasion, the venue is decorated with fresh flowers from the city gardens and also includes a performance of the ballet: the Waltz from One Thousand and One Nights (Johann Strauss Jr.), at Schönbrunn Palace.
Waltz, polka, march, scherzo or quadrille. The Vienna New Year’s Concert 2024 once again features the vigorous and joyful styles of the compositions of the Strauss dynasty (those of the father, Johann Strauss, and those of his sons Johann, Josef and Eduard) and of other contemporaries.
