A fire and another escape attempt

A CRA is a closed place, guarded by the police, welcoming foreigners subject to a removal decision, pending their forced return. That of Paris-Vincennes, a building surrounded by fences located to the south-east of the capital, has 235 places.

This incident occurs two days after the outbreak of a fire, which did not cause any injuries, and an escape attempt in the same CRA. “Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police officers intervened to put out a mattress fire in a bedroom,” the police headquarters told AFP on Sunday. Due to the thick smoke, the detainees had been “evacuated” temporarily before returning to the scene.

Some then “tried to escape by cutting the fence or breaking windows” before calm returned, according to the same source. Around a hundred detainees had been evacuated and around fifty had tried to escape, a police union source added to AFP.
