Since last September 15, Renfe has already allowed the refund of the deposit for free passes corresponding to the second quarter of the year.

In order to enjoy free transport on the national network of both Cercanías and Media Distancia, users previously had to deposit a deposit for the second quarterly pass of the year of between 10 euros and 20 euros.

This type of free transport voucher was a measure applied by the Government to help stop the economic inflation that Spain has been experiencing since the War in Ukraine.

To obtain a refund of the deposit, the client must have used the transportation voucher on at least 16 trips in the last four months. Furthermore, the user, whose card is for single-person use, can use it on a maximum of four trips a day.

As reported by Renfe, the maximum period to demand the return of the finance for the second quarter of 2023 will end next year, specifically in August 2024.

Users who made this payment by card must have already received the refund deposit automatically into their account. However, those users who paid in cash must present the corresponding subscription card, the subscription purchase receipt and their ID to execute the refund.

The free Media Distancia, Rodalies and Cercanías passes corresponding to the third quarter of the year can already be requested for several weeks.

This aid, for which a 100% bonus on train tickets is received.

These free passes can be requested through the ‘Cercanías Renfe’ app or, in the case of Media Distancia tickets, on the official Renfe website.

They can also be purchased through the usual points of sale, but, by using the online route, the purchase of the passes will be carried out more quickly and effectively, avoiding unnecessary queues and waiting.
