This month of March 2023 ends with a show in the sky for lovers of astronomy. And it is that five planets are aligned during these last days of the month.
Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus align from Earth in a phenomenon that only occurs twice a year and does not always occur with the same stars.
As if that were not enough, the alignment of planets can be seen with the naked eye, although to better enjoy the impressive conjunction, the ideal is to use the telescope.
This phenomenon can be seen from Saturday March 25 and until next Thursday March 30, although the best time for its observation has been the night of the 27th to the 28th.
From NASA they explain that this situation occurs when the orbits of the planets cross on the same side of the Sun, from the perspective of the Earth. That moment depends on the time each planet takes to complete orbits around the Sun.
Other times to observe planets
As Rafael Bachiller explains in his appointments with heaven for this spring 2023, at sunrise this spring, we will be able to observe Saturn as the morning star, which Jupiter will join from mid-May. After the sunsets, we will see Venus and Mars.
Mercury will make brief appearances in the sunrises from late March to late April; it will form a beautiful conjunction with Venus, which will be located near the Pleiades, on April 11 (see attached illustration). Afterwards, Mercury will be seen again in the sunsets from mid-May to mid-June.
