Podemos has asked the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, to “close now” a bilateral coalition agreement with the platform that it promotes, Sumar, to be able to attend the next event that it is preparing in Madrid, where it is expected that it will make its candidacy official.
This was explained by the state co-spokesman of the formation, Javier Sánchez Serna, at a press conference to explain that a necessary condition for said electoral alliance is the deployment of open primaries, in order to define the lists for the next general elections.
During his appearance and about the information about Díaz’s plans to invite leaders of political formations to the event to assess his listening process, which will be in Madrid but has no date yet, Sánchez Serna has indicated that they have not received information from Sumar and that the position of the leadership of Podemos, to close that agreement as soon as possible, is already on the table by Díaz’s team.
What’s more, he has insisted that they trust that there will be a pact between Podemos and Sumar so that there is “unity” in the space of the left, it is confirmed that he wants to be the “candidate of all” and also of Podemos and “listen to the people” (with primaries) to prepare the joint candidacy.
Therefore, they are now waiting for the Sumar negotiators to offer them an answer and they have reiterated that they hope that this agreement between Podemos and its platform will be “closed” in order to attend that foreseeable candidacy presentation.
However, it has slipped that that date is not a time horizon limit to achieve a coalition pact, given that its objective is to work for the electoral unit to the left of the PSOE.
Regarding the position of other formations such as the federal coordinator of the IU, Alberto Garzón, that Sumar should not be a mere sum of parties, the Podemos co-spokesman has said that they understand that other formations have their own requirements for this confluence, but Que Podemos insists on urging that coalition agreement.
In addition, he has opined that the launch of open primaries will not be an obstacle to achieve that consensus, since Yolanda Díaz herself and other formations have been in favor of this candidate selection process.
In this way, the purple party focuses on the fact that what is important is negotiation for a broad front of the left and having clear rules for convergence, and not in an act that is one more step in Díaz’s construction of his platform. Add.
Podemos’s criteria during these months is that the coalition of formations is the only possible system to group the different progressive parties and they conceive that Sumar, in addition to being Díaz’s party, stands more as an electoral brand for the elections.
The second vice president is finalizing the final stretch of the ‘listening process’ with civil society on her Sumar platform and plans to hold an event in Madrid soon to take stock of her tour, although the specific date has not yet been defined.
On the other hand, officials from Unidas Podemos consider that the time is drawing near to reveal the decision on their candidate for the next general elections and they believe that the parties of the confederal space, and other progressive formations outside the confluence, should show their support when it materializes. the event.
