Chemnitz (dpa/sn) – Saxony’s motorway network will be upgraded and expanded this year with more than 155 million euros. One of the largest projects is closing the gap in the new construction of the A72 to the A38 near Leipzig. In the last 8.1-kilometer section alone, around 36.5 million euros will flow this year, as the federal Autobahn GmbH informed on Wednesday in Chemnitz. From late summer, traffic will initially move in one lane in each direction.
The larger projects also include several construction projects on the A4. The roadway between Chemnitz-Ost and Hainichen will be renewed over a length of 8.3 kilometers. Renovations are planned in both directions between Wilsdruff and Dresden-Neustadt. Preparatory work for upgrading the Königshainer Berge tunnel is also pending.
“Our motorway network is basically in good condition,” emphasized the head of the Dresden branch of Autobahn GmbH, Christian Milster. Construction will primarily take place while traffic is moving. “Our goal is therefore good construction progress with as few traffic restrictions as possible.”
