Schwerin/Wismar (dpa/mv) – A good year after the insolvency of the MV shipyards, many of the shipbuilders who used to work there are still waiting for a new start. At a press conference on Tuesday (10:00 a.m.) in Schwerin, the transfer company is to take stock and be informed about the current situation at the Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund shipyards. The company, which had absorbed many employees and saved them from unemployment, expired at the end of January. Most recently, about a quarter of the once 3,100 shipyard employees in the transfer company were waiting for a new job offer.

Some of the shipyard workers have already been temporarily taken over by the Meyer shipyard (Papenburg), which is building a giant cruise ship in Wismar on behalf of the Disney group as the new ship owner, which last ran under the name “Global Dream”. Other shipbuilders found employment in Rostock, where the Navy is setting up an arsenal for its ships. According to media reports, however, the start of the Kiel submarine builder TKMS in Wismar will be delayed.
