Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 this year for the first time as a public holiday. According to Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD), the state is also sending an important signal for equality beyond state borders. Around 300 guests from politics, business and volunteers are expected to attend the state government’s traditional Women’s Day reception on Tuesday (5:00 p.m.) in the Schwerin theater. The event will once again honor the woman of the year.
Before Women’s Day, reference was again made to the lack of gender equality in many areas. An important point is the different pay for women and men.
