Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Parents in western Mecklenburg have to prepare for childcare problems on Tuesday. The Verdi union has called for warning strikes in 40 daycare centers and four after-school care centers in Schwerin and the Northwest Mecklenburg and Ludwigslust-Parchim districts, the union announced on Friday. Accordingly, workshops for the disabled and residential groups of the Lewitz-Werkstätten gGmbH are also affected.
According to the Vice Regional Manager of Verdi Nord, Diana Markiwitz, the call for a warning strike affects both municipal institutions and institutions of institutions that have adopted the public service collective agreement or are based on it. That is why the all-day warning strike is also being called in daycare centers by the DRK, Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) and Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB).
A rally with the federal chairman of Verdi, Frank Werneke, is to take place in Schwerin. With the actions, the union wants to increase the pressure in the ongoing collective bargaining for the public sector. In the course of the wage dispute, there had already been warning strikes in the public sector in MV in the past few weeks.
In the forthcoming collective bargaining round, Verdi is demanding 10.5 percent more salary for federal and local employees, but at least 500 euros more per month for a period of twelve months. There had been no rapprochement in the second round of negotiations last week. The next round of collective bargaining will take place on March 28/29, 2023 in Potsdam.
