Dortmund (dpa / lsw) – SV Waldhof Mannheim suffered a bitter setback in the promotion battle in the 3rd football league. The Mannheimers lost 0:4 (0:2) at Borussia Dortmund II on Saturday and again missed the possible jump to fourth place. With 39 points, the Mannheimers are now sixth in the table and can still be overtaken by Dynamo Dresden (37) on Sunday.
In a balanced first half, the Waldhöfer fell behind early on 0:2. Justin Njinmah (18th minute) after a counterattack and Franz Pfanne (22nd) after a corner scored for the BVB reserve. The Mannheimers were unlucky when they were denied a hand penalty after half an hour and shortly afterwards a shot from Alexander Rossipal flew just over the bar.
After the change of sides, coach Christian Neidhart’s team pressed for the goal and was promptly countered. Njinmah (64′) scored his second goal, Marco Pasalic scored the final score in the fourth minute of added time.
