Potsdam (dpa/sa) – The construction industry association East sees a significantly worse situation in the industry. Neither the demand for construction work nor the construction activity would have increased when adjusted for inflation, said CEO Robert Momberg on Friday. Taking into account the increased prices, both have fallen.
The total order volume of the East German construction industry was almost 20 billion euros in 2022 and exceeded the previous year by a nominal ten percent. “The total order volume in 2022 in eastern Germany was well below that of the previous year, despite nominal growth due to increased construction prices (…), including by around a quarter in residential construction alone,” Momberg assessed the figures.
Sales, not adjusted for price, also increased by almost ten percent to around 22 billion euros. “As with incoming orders, it is also the case with regard to sales development that all growth was based solely on the increased construction prices,” said Momberg. Construction activity is actually declining.
The association claims to represent the interests of 260 companies in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
