Suckow (dpa / mv) – A tank trailer loaded with carbon dioxide overturned and was damaged in an accident on the A24 motorway. The police said on Thursday afternoon that carbonic acid was escaping as gas near the Suckow junction. The autobahn is completely blocked in both directions between the Neustadt-Glewe and Suckow junctions. Firefighters sealed the leak. There was no mention of injuries.
According to initial findings, the car and trailer initially left the roadway to the right. The driver steered back onto the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. The tank trailer therefore tipped over on its side. The towing vehicle came to a standstill at the central barrier. The driver was apparently unharmed, it said.
According to initial estimates, the damage is estimated at around 250,000 euros. The closure is expected to last into the evening hours.
