Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Committee chairmen in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt should receive more money. In the future, the allowance will be 500 instead of 350 euros per month. In addition, the reimbursement of travel expenses for MPs is to be increased from 30 to 38 cents per kilometer. The change in the law will be discussed in the state parliament on Thursday.
The Greens sharply criticized the plans on Wednesday. Group leader Cornelia Lüddemann said she found this “self-service mentality” incredible. It is not the right time for the increases.
Representatives of the black-red-yellow coalition defended the planned increase. The lump sum for the committee chairmen has not been adjusted for more than 20 years, said Rüdiger Erben (SPD), Guido Kosmehl (FDP) and CDU parliamentary group leader Guido Heuer. According to faction leader Oliver Kirchner, the AfD wants to abstain from the vote.
Left parliamentary group leader Eva von Angern announced that she would like to discuss further points with the other parliamentary groups in the course of the parliamentary reform. She spoke out in favor of future committee meetings being broadcast live on the Internet.
According to the state parliament administration, the basic remuneration for members of parliament has been set at the final level of the basic salary of a judge in salary group R1. Since July 2021, the members of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt have received 7,230.85 euros per month. In addition, a tax-free lump sum for general costs of 1914.36 euros is paid. There are also grants for employing and training constituency office staff.
