Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – Aid organizations in the earthquake areas in Turkey and Syria can apparently do nothing with the millions of excess protective gowns from the warehouse of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the Ministry of Health, the “previous exchange” with the affected aid organizations has shown that in the earthquake areas “other aid items are currently primarily needed than protective equipment,” according to the Ministry of Health.
The ministry is therefore currently not expecting “large amounts of protective equipment from the state stocks to be retrieved by aid organizations,” said a spokesman. Background: After large orders in the corona pandemic, the country is sitting on millions of protective gowns, among other things, whose shelf life expires this year. They should then be burned.
NRW Minister of Health Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) had told the “WAZ” that aid organizations would be happy to get in touch beforehand. Laumann named the Ukraine and the earthquake areas as an example. The country would then donate the gowns. The condition, according to the ministry, is that the material is still functional and has not expired.
According to the ministry, aid organizations that are still interested in protective equipment for use in non-EU countries can still contact the Münster district government. She is responsible for the national camp.
