The world of athletics is in mourning. American hurdler legend Greg Foster has died at the age of 64, the UCLA athletic department has announced. The athlete had been battling amyloidosis, a rare disease in which a buildup of protein causes organ damage, for several years. This disease led him to undergo a heart transplant in 2020.
After a stellar college career at UCLA in which he won the national 110m hurdles title in 1978 and 1980, Greg Foster won a total of 10 U.S. national indoor and outdoor hurdles titles from 1981 in 1991. The champion won gold in the 110m hurdles at the first three World Athletics Championships in 1983, 1987 and 1991, in addition to a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games in his specialty.
