Leipzig (dpa / sn) – An anteater baby was born in the Leipzig Zoo. “Apparently, the young animal makes a healthy and mobile impression and claws its mother’s back well,” said Johannes Pfleiderer from the zoo on Friday. It is common for young ants to climb onto their mother’s back immediately after birth and be carried until they are independent.

The mother animal is the five-year-old female ant Bardana. In order to give mother and offspring peace and to strengthen their bond, both will be in the rear enclosure of the facility for the next few weeks and will not be visible to visitors for the time being. For this reason, the zoo does not yet know what gender the baby is.
