At the start of the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy thanked him for his country’s support. He is confident of victory and at the same time demands more speed in the delivery of weapons. Then he draws a biblical comparison.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the western states for the military aid to ward off the Russian war of aggression against his country. “There is no alternative to our victory, and there must be no alternative to our determination,” said Zelenskyj in a video link at the start of the Munich Security Conference.

At the same time, the President of Ukraine called on the West to speed up the delivery of arms and support to his country. Russia’s President Putin shouldn’t have a chance, said Zelenskyj. Putin is now trying to buy himself time for his aggression. He could still destroy many lives – “that’s why we need speed,” explained Zelenskyj. “Because our life depends on it.”

Delays in supporting his country have always been harmful, Zelenskyy said. Ukraine’s defense must be strengthened, for example with new, modern tanks. Otherwise the West will not have a quiet minute either. The Kremlin could destroy the safety of everyone gathered in Munich.

Given the speculation that Belarus might join the war alongside Russia, Zelenskyy said he thought it unlikely. That would be “a huge historical mistake,” he said. He has data that a clear majority of the Belarusian population does not want to fight against Ukraine. Selenskyj compared his country to the biblical David who had to defend himself against a Russian Goliath. “Goliath has already started to lose. Goliath will definitely fall this year,” he said.

The meeting of politicians and experts from 96 countries in Munich lasts until Sunday. The focus of the conference is the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which began a year ago.
