Oberhof (dpa/th) – On the last weekend of the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, fans who come by car should plan enough time for the journey. Spectators should allow at least an hour for the route from the parking lot to the arena, the organizer said on Friday. Last weekend there were traffic jams in front of one of four parking spaces around Oberhof.
According to the organizers, they made improvements in the largest parking lot between the towns of Crawinkel and Frankenhain. More access roads and staff as well as a different routing for the shuttle buses towards Oberhof should prevent longer traffic jams. At the same time, the head of the organizing committee, Thomas Grellmann, asked the fans “especially with a view to the sold-out competitions to arrive early and thus on time”.
In order to ease the situation, the organizers of the competitions, which run until Sunday, called for carpooling or switching to local public transport. With the World Cup tickets, guests can use trains and buses to Oberhof free of charge. With a view to the weather in the coming days, the organizers also advised weatherproof clothing. Rain and stormy gusts were forecast for the weekend in Oberhof.
