Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Dresden public prosecutor has brought charges against a woman who is said to be responsible for several arson attacks. The 36-year-old is suspected of setting waste paper bins, garbage cans and other objects on fire in Coswig, Meißen, Radebeul and Dresden between June 2020 and September 2022. As the prosecution also announced on Friday in Dresden, the accused is accused of serious arson in 2 cases, attempted serious arson in 5 cases and property damage in 19 cases.

The largest property damage of around 100,000 euros was caused by the arson in Radebeul. The woman is said to have set fire to a waste paper container here in October 2021. The fire spread to an adjacent apartment building and an inn. In another case, a small child had to be taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation.

The alleged serial arsonist has a criminal record and has been in custody since September last year. She denies the allegations. The Dresden Regional Court will now decide on the opening of the main proceedings and the admission of the indictment. A date for the main hearing has not yet been set.
