Oberhof (dpa/th) – The cross-country ski runs and hiking trails in the Thuringian Forest can currently only be used to a limited extent. Most of the routes are contaminated by needles or stones, some trails are also interrupted, the Thuringian Forest regional association announced on Wednesday.

Snow depths of up to 40 centimeters are currently being measured. For winter sports enthusiasts there are, among other things, more than 500 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails, 44 winter hiking trails, 20 prepared toboggan slopes and 8 lifts.

Because of the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, there are major restrictions in the winter sports area, as the regional association announced. The competitions last until February 19th. “We recommend all active winter sports enthusiasts and tourists who do not want to go to the events to visit the alternative winter sports areas in the Thuringian Forest,” the regional association said in a statement.
