As a compact SUV with a coupé-like line, the BMW X2 first drove to customers in 2018. Where should interested used buyers take a particularly close look at the rustic model? At the TÜV he cuts off well above average.

The X2 is BMW’s smallest SUV coupé and hasn’t been on the market for very long. In its first general inspection (HU), the model, which is closely related to the 1 series, performed well above average. “Only small things and wearing parts are complained about,” writes the “Auto Bild TÜV Report 2023”. However, the first weak points are emerging.

Model history

The X2 came onto the market in 2018, a facelift has not yet been presented. Technically, the model also shares many components with the BMW X1, the models use the same front-wheel drive platform from the manufacturer.

In 2019, the M35i, the most powerful version to date, followed; in the following year the plug-in hybrid 25e as the only electrified one.

Five doors, high body, at least a slightly sloping roof with hatchback: The X2 combines the features of an SUV and, to some extent, those of a coupé. There are no variants.

Strengthen

With a sportier tuning than the X1 and X3, the X2 focuses on driving fun. And even with the first and only HU so far, there are hardly any reasons for the corners of the mouth pointing downwards. According to the report, drive shafts and steering cut a very good figure.

The brake chapter gets good marks: almost no complaints about hoses, lines, parking brakes and foot brakes. Rust: nil, the emissions test (AU): no hurdle. Loss of oil occurs very rarely – 0.3 percent of the time.

weaknesses

The second-hand prices are just as high as the reliability and driving performance. Bad: the lack of all-round view, thanks to the fat C-pillar. At the HU, the axle suspensions are showing the first signs of weakness with complaint rates slightly above the average for the vehicle class. From time to time, the light bulbs have to be replaced at the front, and failing turn signals are already discovered.

As is to be expected with such a young model, the breakdown record is also solid. In the ADAC statistics, all years of the X2 rank in good and very good places. Major breakdowns: “None so far,” according to the club.
