A ghost driver kills a person on the A96 between Neuötting and Altötting and seriously injures another. He barely survives the accident. The salvage work is in progress, the lane towards Munich is closed.

A 34-year-old man was fatally injured in a head-on collision between his car and a wrong-way driver on the A94 in Upper Bavaria. The man died early Sunday evening at the accident site in the Altötting district, the police said. The 38-year-old wrong-way driver suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision. He was taken to a hospital in a rescue helicopter. The victim’s passenger was seriously injured.

The 38-year-old had previously driven his Seat around 6:00 p.m. in the wrong direction at the Altötting junction on the A94 for an initially unknown reason. Between the Neuötting and Altötting junctions, he then crashed head-on into the oncoming car of the 34-year-old, the police said. A third car from Switzerland, occupied by four people, then crashed into the debris, it was said. Another vehicle with two women finally drove into the wrong-way driver’s car.

The four occupants of the third vehicle were reportedly unharmed, the driver of the fourth car was hospitalized with minor injuries, and her passenger was reportedly unharmed. The police estimate the damage at a total of around 100,000 euros. The lane was closed in the direction of Munich.
