Werder Bremen beat VfB Stuttgart in a fast-paced Bundesliga game with many chances to score. At first, the Swabians put enormous pressure on them, but in the end they slip deeper and deeper into the crisis. The green and whites cheer because Marvin Ducksch hits the goal corner beautifully.
VfB Stuttgart missed the urgently needed liberation in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga and remains in crisis. The Swabians suffered a bitter 2-0 (0-0) loss in the groundbreaking home game against Werder Bremen and were also without a win in their fourth league game under coach Bruno Labbadia. The pressure before the Baden-Württemberg derby at SC Freiburg is increasing.
Werder, on the other hand, ended their negative series against VfB at the seventh attempt and consolidated their secure place in midfield. In front of 48,000 spectators, Jens Stage ensured Bremen’s celebrated 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. Marvin Ducksch (77th) followed suit and secured the first victory in Stuttgart in ten years.
After the last-minute cup win in Paderborn (2-1), VfB started with a lot of vigor and self-confidence. Early on, Chris Führich and Serhou Guirassy missed good chances for the Stuttgart team. The focus was on Werder keeper Jiri Pavlenka, who made a bad mistake but immediately corrected his mistake with a reflex against Guirassy.
In the early stages, Werder found it extremely difficult to free themselves without Mitchell Weiser, who was suspended. Only after 14 minutes did the guests have their first good attack. However, Leonardo Bittencourt failed because of Florian Müller. As a result, Bremen kept the game open – also because VfB, where Genki Haraguchi celebrated his starting eleven debut, shifted down a gear. In addition, Labbadia had to replace Guirassy injured after just over 20 minutes. Luca Pfeiffer came in for him. The attacker missed a good VfB chance just before the change – otherwise Werder was hardly in danger.
Bremen, on the other hand, had one or the other promising action – the best of which came from Ducksch. His free kick just missed the Stuttgart goal by centimeters (42′). After the change, a confused game developed in which Werder suddenly took the lead. The ball landed happily at Stage via Füllkrug. He didn’t hit the right target, but Müller didn’t have a chance to defend himself. VfB put everything on one card, but Bremen countered ice cold. Ducksch flicked the ball into the box with a dream goal after a pass from Füllkrug.
